Indi is a newly commissioned film (2022), which is written and directed by our Creative Director Billy. The film has also been produced through the CIC.
We experience his loving relationship with his isolated Mum and how much strength he took from her love in the years leading to her death, and how community ties put him at odds with his great passion as he plays for his Uncle’s Sunday league team.
As the story develops, we realise his community unwittingly conspired against him and that, with all the best will in the world, his talent was always doomed. As part of the first generation of British born, he was a sacrificial lamb in the journey to fulfilling your God given talent.
The work asks the question, how are your choices shaped by your environment? In this case, is the bridge between non-educated empire workers and their English-born children part of the sacrifice before one can say they are fully of this nation and it’s cultural mores.
Indi (2022): commissioned by FLAMIN Productions through Film London Artists' Moving Image Network and New Art Exchange. With funding from Arts Council, England.
